Bit of a drive from Albany but worth it for the outlook, situated in a huge bay with a part of it being a spot for surfer's. Good facilities, nice rest area, be careful when going for a swim as it looks a little dicey but of course great spot for whales and the sighting of a few native birds enclosed, go there beautiful and quiet...
Beautiful blue waters, there were lots of people swimming too. Would be a really nice spot to have a picnic with the family right next to the waves. If your lucky you might even get to see some whales! 🐳🐳🐋
Beautiful beach. Beware, but, lots of flys, even in spring. Very squeaky sand. Very little swell. You can drive onto the beach.
This is a Dog Friendly beach. And, like so many locations in Western Australia the surrounding area is heavily baited with the insidious and inhumane 1080 poison in the nearby National Park, so your Dog is at risk of picking up a relocated bait. There is also a sign at Cheynes Beach warning of the dangers of poisonous sea hares on the beach to your Dog. It is a particularly weedy beach and tiger snakes were sighted amongst the weed during our visit over several days. If you visit this Beach, please be aware of the dangers to your Dog, and also watch your own step due to the snakes. I didn't find it a relaxing place to walk my Dogs with so many things to watch out for (baits, sea hares and snakes). Also, perhaps I didn't choose the best time to visit because the windy conditions were unpleasant in the month of October. Apart from my concerns about the safety of my Dogs and the relentless wind, I can see that this Beach could be a great location to view the Whales passing during their migration.
Wow!! I love this place. We saw a pod of whales and two mums feeding their calves quite close to shore. Further up the beach a male was breaching the surface and making huge splashes. We managed to get a few videos. The beach is so pristine it squeaks under your feet. The water is amazing and really clear. I will be heading back as soon as I get the chance. This time of year is great to see whales along Cheynes. I would suggest anyone that has a drone to take it, and you would get great footage from it. Wonderful place, and at night, with a clear sky the stars are so much brighter, due to there being little to no other lights interfering with your viewing. You need a 4wd to truly enjoy the magic of this place.
