We came on a cruise and wanted to just find a good place to swim and eat and relax. Someone recommended Black Pearl and we called up to verify we could come visit. Service was great! We had a couple of pizzas for lunch. Expensive, but could pay in AUD. The beach on the right was much easier to snorkel than the beach on the left.
A great place to stay owners Ivo and Annie were so nice they couldn’t do enough for us. It has a really friendly community with lots of local Ex Pats eating at the restaurant, the food is fantastic. We had a 5 night stay as part of a fishing trip with Ruan of Pacific reef sportfishing.
(3.5 stars) With a power outage thwarting our plans to dine at Turtle Beach Lodge, we ended up at Black Pearl Restaurant & Bar for lunch. With a commanding thatched lobby, restaurant, lounge and bar, it was an interesting spot to visit. For AUD 10 you can snorkel here too, and from a glance at the slightly turbulent water, it looked like there would be more coral to see than at Barrier Beach Resort down the road. Worth noting that they seem to still be building, with power tools being used in the restaurant as we ate our lunch. From the chalkboard menu, we were excited to see fishes other than poulet. Dogtooth tuna sashimi (1200VT) was so thinly sliced it was practically fish charcuterie, but ate well with the tiny scrapes of wasabi and the teacup of soy. We threw in a garlic cheese pizza (1600VT) to answer our cravings for dairy after nearly three weeks of island life. Tuna steak (3500VT) looked the part under a vibrant red fresh tomato salsa with lime, wilted bok choy and rice, but came cooked through despite our strong request for rare. Misstep aside, this one is worth considering for lunch if you’re visiting the east coast attractions from Champagne Beach to the various blue holes.
The restaurant is pricey even for Vanuatu, and frankly the ambience is far more upmarket pub than fancy restaurant. There's a foosball table right in front of the bar. Food was ok, nothing we could particularly recommend. There are tastier, cosier and better value options not much further down the road.
Amazing venue and location. Bungalows are magnificent and some have a 9m x 4.5m pool.
